Starving Artist Brewing Co. is Ludington’s newest brewery with a small production-only facility run by founder Andrew Thomas. The brewery has been unveiling their small batch beers via self-distribution at bars and restaurants around town debuting their first four beers with a launch party with live music and food pairings on the rooftop deck of the Blu Moon Bistro. The new brewery was well received with all of their initial offerings selling out by the party’s end.
The four beers featured included Moon Shadow Stout with flavors of oak, cacao nib, and vanilla bean and is one of several contract brews Starving Artist has planned as collaborations with local bars and restaurants. Chef Jason Munford of the Blu Moon collaborated with food and beer pairing suggestions for the restaurant’s rooftop menu. These included a suckling pig featured prepared specially for the event which paired well with the Prolific Pale ale with Cascade and Summit hops. Thierry IPA was the most hop forward offering which paired well with the Whitefish basket.

Old Flame Ginger Red Ale was one of Starving Artist’s Doubting Thomas series of beers which promises to feature a rotating lineup of brews with unique ingredients such as lavender, blood orange, and rosemary. The Blu Moon’s rooftop deck made for an excellent venue for the brewery’s launch party with live music including Chad Rushing performing for the event. Starving Artist followed up their launch party at the Blu Moon with a tap takeover at the Michigan-themed Mitter Bar the following night.
