Holland’s Macatawa Ale Company held their soft opening back in March. Since then the brewery has been busy slowly but surely focussing on building and developing a solid lineup of mainstay and seasonal beers. The location is 102 S River Ave with ample parking off 4th Street is just a pub crawl away from downtown Holland. The brewery was founded by brothers Ed & Jeff Westerlund along with Ed’s son Andrew. Ed began homebrewing kitchen style approximately 25 years ago prior to upgrading to garage-scale nano brews with Macatawa’s 3 barrel system a natural progression.
Macatawa Ale Company currently features around 10 beers on tap. Lighter offerings include the Golden H.E.W. Blonde and Westerweizen, whereas their darker beers include the Macatawa Brown, Pinbone Porter, and 555 Stout. Hopheads will appreciate the Main Way Rye P.A., Citrello APA, and Tanx IPA. Soda is also available. The brewery is food friendly with plenty of take-out and delivery options in the area including one of the world famous Fricano’s Pizzerias in close proximity. Macatawa also features occasional live music; the Double Nickle String Band just performed in the pub this past July.

Macatawa Ale Company also recently launched their brew club. Annual membership costs $40 per year and includes a free “welcome beer” with all pours upgraded automatically to a member’s only 20 oz. mug. The club also includes invites to special events and promotions, $3.50 birthday drafts, and merchandise discounts. Macatawa Ale Company is currently open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5 until 10 p.m., Fridays 5 until 11 p.m. and Saturdays noon until 11 p.m. Be sure to stop in and give Macatawa a try!
