For those familiar with Bastone’s beer menu, it features everything from a light American style Monumental Blonde to a Bohemian Main Street Pilsner at 5.5 percent abv.; a Belgian White brewed with citrus and coriander known as Witface to Royal IPA with strong hop and malt presence; and on the stronger side is Dubbel Vision, a Belgian amber brewed with dark fruits and the Nectar des Dieux Triple golden ale with light fruity notes at 9 percent abv.
This month’s seasonals will welcome both the Saison du Bastone and a Belgian Blonde. The Saison du Bastone is a Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup winner with complex fruit flavors like mango, pineapple and black pepper. It is a Belgian farmhouse ale and is 6.5 percent alcohol by volume.
Bastone Brewery and Monk Beer Abbey is located at 419 S. Main Street and 109 E. 5th Street respectively in Royal Oak, Michigan.
The bars throughout these establishments recently transitioned from pint glasses to custom glassware to ensure that depending on the style of beer a patron orders – it is served up properly:
- Belgian Tulip Glass – Order up Bastone’s Nectar des Dieux Triple, a Belgian style golden strong ale that measures in around 9 percent alcohol by volume - or another strong seasonal beer - and you’ll find it served up in style in a tulip.
- Teardrop Tulip – Go with a Dubbel Vision, Royal IPA or Witface and you’ll be served your beverage in a taller version of the tulip glass, allowing more room for complex beers with a heavier head and space to accommodate the flavors of these varieties.
- Pilsner – Bastone’s Monumental Blonde was meant to be served in a pilsner, a glass long and tall enough to accentuate lighter beers like this one with its soft malt and hop flavors. Or, of course, order a Main Street Pilsner and savor its moderate hops and Bohemian style.
- Growler – Fill a growler with any of Bastone’s beers and take them with you to enjoy at home or at an event. It’s a great option for Father’s Day and growlers are $8 to fill and $12 to purchase at both locations.
