With St. Patrick’s Day just seven days away (I know it’s so close!), Royal Oak’s Bastone Brewery has just unveiled plans for a special menu and new seasonal beers welcoming all ready for a taste of the holiday or spring itself.
When Executive Chef Robert Young unveils a new Irishfest menu, its evident spring can’t be far behind. This year, in addition to all the usual fare, those who stop in for dinner beginning Monday, March 16 and for the two weeks that follow will have five Irishfest specials from which to choose, as well.

It begins with traditional favorites like Corned Beef & Cabbage, made with house-brined corned beef, cabbage, bacon, onions, carrots and herbed redskin potatoes, to Shepherd’s Pie filled with ground beef, carrots, onions, peas and baked with a duchess potato topping. Other comfort foods include: Chicken & Leek Pot Pie with a side of pomme frites and peas; Shrimp Bake consisting of baby shrimp in a caper sauce with grilled sourdough bread; and Jameson Chicken, pan-seared chicken breast in a sauce of Jameson whiskey, onion and course grain mustard and served alongside seasonal vegetables and bubble & squeak. Young noted that the special limited-time menu will also be available at neighboring Vinotecca Wine Bar and Restaurant.

March is a perfect time to pair any seasonal dishes with one of Bastone’s original, award-winning craft beers, or a favorite Irish whiskey. Brewmaster Rockne Van Meter is about to tap two brand new seasonal beers, a Belgian Red, featuring the Nelson Sauvin hop from New Zealand that offers strong, fruity grape and berry flavors; and a Belgian Pale that incorporates the Citra hop, giving it strong citrus and tropical fruit notes.
