ecap of Founders Doom Release and Black Party

The line started early for this year’s 12th annual Founder Black Party. The $10 admission fee included a commemorative mug and a pint of any tier 1 release beer. A lineup of classic Founders dark beers was available all day along including but not limited to KBS, Breakfast and Imperial Stouts, and Porter. Bands performed throughout the day including Oracle, Love Fossil, Mintboone, and Hundo. The deli was also serving a special Black-themed release just for the event: A blackened chicken sandwich tossed with Breakfast Stout and garlic with blackberry aioli.
In addition to mainstays, a plethora of very limited release barrel-aged tappings were tapped throughout the event, many selling very quickly to thirsty attendees. Highlights included (but were not limited to;)
  • The Panther Cub, a porter aged year-long in maple barrels

  • Barrel Aged Party Stout featuring chocolate and vanilla

  • Devil’s Cut, a 15+ % ABV Kentucky Breakfast Stout aged an extra year

The week preceding Black Party also featured the unveiling of the latest Backstage Release from Founders: Doom, a bourbon-aged version of Double Trouble. In addition to pre-ticketed bottle sale releases daily, Doom was featured on tap throughout the week up to and including the Black Party. I purposely purchased my tickets for the Thursday release to coincide with a free performance of legendary keyboardist Bernie Worrell (who happened to be celebrating his birthday that midnight.) Opening act Andy Frasco and the U.N. did a great job of warming up the crowd for Bernie’s stellar funk extravaganza.

Tickets also went on sale for this year’ Founders Fest, which will be held June 22nd this year. This event is the brewery’s largest event of the year, an outdoor party featuring exclusive beer tapping and live music, closing down the streets outside the brewery for the festival. This year’s performers are scheduled to include G. Love & Special Sauce, Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk, and of course the always incredible FBC All-Stars featuring an impressive and talented lineup of Founders employees in the band.Early bird advance tickets can be purchased for $20 via Eventbrite at the following link:
