The Rat Fest is where local southeast brew clubs can hone their skills and have some fun at the same time. The competition takes place on the Rat Pad which is a 10 gallon brewing system. Each of these clubs will have to create four beers in this 24 hour period.
Since this is a group that likes to 'up the ante' the ABC Microbrewery has come up with a new challenge. Not only do you need to brew 4 beers in a single 24 hour period but one of them must be a sour. When you are creating a sour or tart tasting beer you are allowing the wild yeast or good bacteria to be introduced to the brew.
This event is always a good time with the brewers putting on a great show. Mark your calender for the 6th Annual Rat Fest Homebrew Competition on January 25th from 2-5pm. Purchase your tickets early for $35 or at the door for $40, each ticket includes a commemorative tasting glass, beer samples and snacks. Buy them early either in person at the microbrewery or over the phone by calling 734-480-2739.
