Coming Soon The Beer Hound Membership Card
We're thrilled and excited to announce the upcoming release of our official Beerhound Membership Card. This is a new way to both take advantage of and actively participate in your Beerhound status by saving money when you dine or shop at participating restaurants, bars, and breweries around the state. Each venue will feature a unique special of their own which will be a discount off food or merchandise. Becoming a cardholder is simple--purchase a membership card through Beer Hound site and start receiving membership benefits. The member card is an annual membership and we are offering it for $20 alone or membership, t-shirt, and card for $35. We have 40 locations on board right now and are shooting for 50 by the January 21 launch. Even after it launches, we hope to get as many as 100 locations on the card with statewide coverage.

Recap of 4th Annual Michigan Brewers Guild Detroit Fall Beer Fest
This is the fourth year of the Michigan Brewers Guild Detroit Fall Beer Festival and it has been growing bigger and bigger each year. In fact, this festival has grown so much that the Brewers Guild decided to make it a two-day festival! For Paul and me, this was our second time attending this festival. I really love the fact that it is located in the heart of Detroit at the popular Eastern Market. I love the Eastern Market. We try to make it down there whenever we are in the area on a day that it is open. I am glad that the Brewers Guild decided to just extend the festival to two days rather than move it to an alternate location. I really feel that there is no better location within the Detroit City Limits to hold this wonderful festival.

The Weather & Marquette Combine for Successful 2012 U.P Fall Beer Fest
Saturday, September 8, was your typical, run-of-the-mill late summer day in Michigan: chilly, cloudy, partly sunny, fairly warm, and with periods of light showers and no showers at all. Also included: U.P. Beer Fest 2012, set in Lower Mattson Harbor Park in beautiful Marquette, MI. The wife and I (well, mostly I) were anticipating a great day sampling the wares of more than 35 Michigan craft brewers, along with some local food and musical entertainment. In all, we were looking forward to five hours of controlled and polite beer mayhem!

Variations on a Theme: An IPA Beerposium at Copper Canyon
When I first became interested in craft beer, I immediately drifted towards hoppybeers. Then I realized that everyone liked hoppy beers and me being me, well, that justwouldn’t do. So, I started shying away from IPAs and Imperial IPAs and RyePAs (exceptRed’s Rye) and instead drinking browns and porters and stouts and fruit ales and everything in between.

Recap of Going to Chocolate—er, Copper Canyon: A Chocolate Beerposium with Beer Todd
I like to think that I defy gender stereotypes in many ways. For example, I do not enjoy shopping, I own about five pairs of shoes, and I think I drive pretty badass. I also am not a huge fan of chocolate. I will eat it if it is around, but I don’t buy it myself and rarely find myself craving it. Boyfriend Ken, on the other hand, loves the stuff. So when I heard about a chocolate beer tasting—a Beerposium—at Copper Canyon, I knew we had to go.

A Few Beers to Look Out For at 2012 Winter Beer Fest
The sold out Michigan Brewers Guild Winter Festival is just days away and the excitement is building. There will be 61 breweries showcasing over 450 beers and the festival layout has been expanded to accommodate the increased number of beer enthusiasts. This festival will be the largest single day event the Guild produces. Many of the beers that I picked to preview will only be available at the Festival. I have selected the following beers based on brewer/owner recommendations, personal intrigue, or the fact they just sounded cool. Some of these will be released at special times so check the event program and plan your attack.

Michigan Breweries: The Winter Seasonal Beers
As the days get shorter and the temperatures start to plummet, there is no mistake that Winter is here. Although the season does not start officially until the Winter Solstice, December 22 this year, ask any Michigander and they will tell you Winter starts much earlier. While all people know the bad that Winter brings... snow, school closings, bad roads, etc we need to focus on the good. The good that I am referring to is Winter Beer!
