Whiskey and Eggs sounds good ? The Rehab Brunch at Stella’s Lounge might just be your thing. Add in Tequila Sunrise Eggs and a Bloody Mary bar from noon until 1am every Sunday if you haven’t made up your mind yet. Chill out on some of Stella’s vintage arcade games and pinball machines (and throw some tunes on the jukebox) while you decide....

Right Brian Brewery: A Beer and a Haircut?

A beer and a haircut? How about a beer at Traverse City's premier microbrewery featuring 16 plus unique taps and a cut at an upscale salon complete with head and neck massage with hot towel finish. Right Brain and the adjoining Salon Saloon offer just that, and I couldn't resist the opportunity. Firestarter Chipotle Porter was my beverage of choice, and a clipper cut #3 all over got me in the door even though it was close to closing time for the salon.

Recap of The Extra Snowy 2012 Suds and Snow Festival

The 2012 Suds and Snow Festival was different than any other Suds and Snow we have been to mainly because 20 inches of snow dropped in a 24 hour period in the Traverse City area. We headed from Lansing to Traverse City on Friday evening, driving right into the eye of the storm and cruising at a speedy 35mph which made a 3 hour drive a very long 5 hour drive. Once we got to the hotel on Friday, we were only there for about an hour when the power went out for good.

2012 Royal Oak Winter Beer Festival

Last weekend Paul and I had a booth at The Royal Oak Winter Beer Festival. This was a great event that was held in the beautiful Royal Oak Music Theatre located in Royal Oak, MI.  We have never been to an event in a theatre like this before. I really loved how they utilized the unique space that they had. There were brewery tables set up on each tier of the floor with Michigan Brewing Company occupying the entire main stage. This was interesting to me beause you rarely see MBC at any events, let alone having more beers on tap than any other brewery in attendance.

Saugatuck Pier Cove Porter

The once almost extinct style of Porter is alive and well in the State of Michigan. For the unfamiliar, Porter is a rich, malty, dark, and often roasted brew. This style evolved in England and became a favorite of the street and river porters of the city. Although the origin is somewhat cloudy and open to debate, it appears that porter evolved from the Brown Ales common in that day. Porter ushered in the industrial revolution and was the first beer to be made on a mass production basis. Porter gave birth to stout porter which eventually became known as stout and shortly after, porter fell out of favor. The style was later revived by American and English Micro-brewers and is quite common today.
