In late 2004, a three phase development plan was put in place by brewmaster Barry Johnson, creating Saugatuck Brewing Company. Beginning in June, 2005 a small, intimate, start-up brewery with the only “Brew On Premise” facility in Western Michigan, was created in a leased industrial unit on Enterprise Drive in Douglas.
Beginning in June of 2008 the second phase of the plan was initiated. The entire operation was moved into a 25,000 square foot former industrial production building on Blue Star Highway in Douglas. This second phase included the Brew On Premise facility and expansion of our beer production facility. A ten barrel production system was purchased and installed for brewing beer for our pub and for regional distribution. The new full service kitchen was outfitted, and the new pub, the Lucky Stone Pub, was created in an Irish Pub theme featuring the Brew On Premise equipment as it’s center piece. In early 2009, SBC's ownership was restructured giving full ownership to the investor/shareholders.
The third phase followed shortly thereafter with the creation of the multipurpose banquet facility, now known as the Singapore Room, complete with stage and lights, which can accommodate over 200 seated quests. This outstanding venue offers versatile usage for events such as weddings, concerts, corporate events, class reunions etc.
The ambiance of these newly created expansions combines the charm and character of an Irish Pub with the bold contemporary elements of a gleaming microbrewery. The banquet/meeting hall and the production brewing system add an element of excitement to the overall building characteristics. Customers can enjoy snacks or libations while watching the beer, similar to the style they are drinking, being produced on the Brew On Premise system less than ten feet away! This unique operation is a production microbrewery, Brew On Premise brewery, old world Pub, and "Singapore Room” banquet facility.
They hope you will join us and experience for yourself the relaxed and intimate atmosphere of the Lucky Stone Pub, and Saugatuck Brewing Co.
