The second annual Lansing Beer Week will take place from June 21 to June 29, 2013. This weeklong celebration will feature Michigan craft beer themed events throughout the greater Lansing area. The goal of Lansing Beer Week is to raise awareness of the Michigan craft beer industry while promoting patronage to local establishments and stimulating the greater Lansing area’s retail economy and Michigan made products.

One of the oldest bars in Lansing, which has been closed for several years, is set to reopen this summer. Zoobie's Old Town Tavern, owned by the same family since 1932, was the first bar in Michigan to receive a liquor license after the 21st amendment passed repealing prohibition. Over the years it maintained the feel of an old neighborhood bar serving cold beer and humble bar food. I remember visiting Zoobie's once in college and I thought that although it was old and a bit rundown, that at one time it was probably a very nice place.

Now fully through the transition period of re-branding and redesigning their menu and mission, the Midtown Beer Company  in downtown Lansing has just acquired new BREWING equipment and will be serving their new craft beers on draft. They will be releasing the first two offerings Golgotha (Belgian Black IPA) and London Calling (English Bitter Ale) tonight, Tuesday, May 7th at 5:00 PM.

Our next pairing at the REO Town Pub will feature bacon from Jerome Country Market in southern Michigan and beer from Right Brain Brewery in Traverse City. The event will be held on Thursday, April 18th at 7:00 PM. As with our previous events, we expect a big turnout so please purchase your tickets ahead of time through or website or in person at the Pub.

Today Friday, March 15th, both Reno's locations will be holding tap takeovers featuring the delectable beers of Darkhorse Brewing Company. Darkhorse is a unique and uniquely run brewing operation in the quaint, sleepy southern Michigan town of Marshall. They became famous for their tremendous Crooked Tree IPA but also do many other things very well, including their holiday stout series.

Our next REO Town Pub event will be a beer and pretzel tasting on Thursday, March 14th at 7:00 PM. The delicious, homemade varieties of pretzels will be paired with beers from Detroit's Atwater Brewery in the spirit of a true German festival. As always, the nature of this event will be relaxed and friendly, and the Pub will be featuring other drink specials throughout the night.

Lansing's first ever Art and Craft Beer Fest at the Art Alley building in REO Town was a huge success, and we want to thank everyone involved. From everyone who purchased tickets to Roxaanne, Craig, and Jack from the REO Town Pub, from the volunteers to the bands and artists, and all the breweries and their representatives--this was truly a great night and could not have been pulled off without everyone's support.

A musical group originally hailing from South Africa is bringing the hottest tunes to the streets of  Downtown Lansing for Frost Fest 13! Fusion Shows and 94.1 The Edge presents Civil Twilight, at Frost Fest 13 on Saturday, February 16 in downtown Lansing.

Last month, we celebrated our second anniversary with a delicious and fun dinner at the Soup Spoon Café in Lansing. It was a five course meal designed by the Nick Gavrilides, owner of the Spoon and Jason Blastic, head chef. We were very excited for this dinner not just because it was a milestone for our project but because of the marvelous creations that come out of Soup Spoon’s kitchen each day, and especially for private beer dinners.
