Paw Paw may be known to most as wine country. However, opening in early 2011, Paw Paw Brewing Company has now put this village located in Michigan’s great southwest onto the beer map. A wide variety of beers are offered ranging from the very light Paw Paw wheat to the Black River Oatmeal Stout, with something for everyone. I stuck with the hoppier styles giving pints of the 2 Paws IPA and Kalamazoo Urban Assault a try. The lighter, maltier varieties proved to be hits as well.

Available food includes a variety of sandwiches such as the ham & swiss or pesto chicken along with snacks including soft pretzels with nacho beer cheese. The atmosphere is family-friendly, with an outside deck but also conducive for sitting at the bar with some friends if prefered. Stop by on a summer weekend and you’ll likely be able to enjoy a beer tent with music. In September, Paw Paw Brewing will be teaming up with St. Julian Winery for the wine and harvest festival.

Paw Paw Brewing is located at 929 East Michigan Avenue and open 7 days a week, closing at midnight on weekends, and earlier on weeknights. We found the place to be pretty happening even on a Sunday evening when we made our stop. A mug club is available for frequent visitors plus growlers to go for those who want to bring their favorite beer home with them. If you are in the area, be sure to give Paw Paw a try.
