Brewmaster John Svoboda, formerly of Grand Rapids Brewing Company, was on hand to walk us through the full range of brews starting with the Spooky Action Imperial IPA to the Blonde, a Kolsch style proudly served as the “lowest common denominator;” a deliciously clean and refreshing beer verging on a session ale. Brews in the works are an Imperial Stout, Blood Orange Ale, and Quadruple IPA. Limited Edition bottles will be available soon! The “Chef Collaboration” series includes brews and menu items closely worked on together with the chefs of the Monkey Bar. New menu items include the Crispy Fried Cauliflower and Kauai Style Coconut Shrimp. The tapas theme of shared small plates works especially well in the microbrew environment found here. I shared the Sweet and Spicy shrimp plate and sampled the Jerk Chicken. Both dishes worked well and complimented the diverse selection of beers to be found on tap.
25.00 lifelong mug club is a complete no-brainer. In addition to the normally expected discounts and customized mug, Thursday nights get you $1.00 pours (Yes, this I promise is as absolutely as close as you will ever get to free beer at a microbrewery.) Discount at other Gilmore collection restaurants is also included. Count me in.
