There’s Something New Brewing in Ishpeming’s Country Village

Brett Helzer, the new Head Brewer at the Jasper Ridge Brewery, is settling nicely into his job after taking over brewing operations at the popular restaurant and brewpub. Brett has been hard at work brewing a variety of craft beers new to the establishment, as well as several old favorites.

New Holland Brewing Co. Annual Hatter Family Release & Street Party is Set for June 8

Every year New Holland Brewing Co. goes a little mad and releases an entire family of IPA-inspired craft beers and spirits to celebrate their anniversary and their flagship brew – Mad Hatter IPA. This year will be no different, except this June 8th they will be introducing a new member to the family – Michigan Hatter, a pale ale featuring Michigan-grown Cascade hops and local barley.

Rhino Media Productions of Kalamazoo is producing a creative film that will document the craft beer explosion we all have witnessed here in Michigan these past few years.  Simply put, this is a film about the people who are putting their heart and soul into producing craft beer in the state of Michigan.

Grand Rapids -2013 Beer City USA

Michigan is starting craft beer out with a bang with competition among Michigan cities inciting some of the highest vote getters in last week’s Beer City USA polling. Grand Rapids, which tied for 1st place last year alongside Asheville, North Carolina, this year took exclusive rights to the title getting over twice as many votes as any other nominated city. Kalamazoo took 2nd place, with Asheville slipping to 3rd, cementing Michigan’s reputation as The Great Beer State. The only other Michigan city to be nominated, Ann Arbor, rounded off the top 4.

Grand Rapids Beer City USA 2013 - The Time to Vote is Now!

There is no question 2012 was great year for Grand Rapids and beer. A record number of brewery openings included Eastown’s Harmony, Mitten Brewing, and Grand Rapids Brewing Company as well as both Pike 51 and White Flame in Hudsonville, Perrin in Comstock Park and Rockford Brewing Company. Additionally Grand Rapid’s most successful brewery Founders celebrated their 15-year anniversary in style which included the release of their 15% Bolt Cutter Barleywine. But perhaps the defining moment in 2012 was the nomination and securing of the title Beer City USA in a tied vote along with previous year victors Asheville, North Carolina.

The Latest Progress on Arcadia West in Kalamazoo

Construction continues at the future site of Arcadia Brewing Company in Kalamazoo. New details continue to be unveiled by Arcadia President, Tim Suprise, as the opening date approaches and the focus shifts from remedying delays to progress.

Gerald R. Ford International Airport

Grand Rapids Magazine-branded travel retail stores will be a part of a future construction project at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport. HMSHost Corporation of Bethesda, Maryland, will manage the project, initially planning to rebrand the airport’s current newsstand location as “Grand Rapids Magazine travel retail store” in June 2013. Two additional stores—one in concourse A, planned for completion in January 2014; and another in concourse B, with a planned completion date in June 2014—will also be part of the efforts intended to “localize” the airport.
