As many of you know, Logan is a genius brewer and never more so than in these two ales. The Corner had a contest, asking for ideas for the beers. The winners were a spearmint agave orange pale ale and a smoked birch beer porter. (Personally, I think the naughty “Hot For Teacher” cinnamon ale—and the teachers drink free all night—idea should have one, but I’m just one voice.)
I only had one of the “nice” beers (see above regarding me being nice vs. naughty). What was awesome about this beer was that nothing was too much or stood out too much. That is, it didn’t taste like Doublemint or a McDonald’s orange drink or…whatever too much agave would taste like. It was light, crisp and a refreshing ale. In short, very nice!
But the naughty? Oh, my. Remember those Dum Dum suckers? The ones that would win you prizes, provided that you collected 13,000 wrappers? There was a root beer sucker that was always my favorite, mainly because it tasted way better than any root beer I’d ever had. This beer reminded me of that sucker, only with alcohol in it, amigos! It had a nice, smoky flavor to it (I am slowly becoming enamored with smoked beers), but it didn’t leave me feeling like I had eaten a barbecue. This beer was so good that I might have drank three, in rapid succession. Therefore, I was unable to take very good pictures and therefore, I leave you with some pictures taken by my friend, Andrew Wiertella.
Maybe next year I’ll try to be nice? You’ll have to come to Krampus to find out!
