Friday, February 1st marked the 1-year anniversary of the Grand Rapids Eastown Harmony Brewing Company
. The celebration took place all day from open until close. Free merchandise was given out to who ever happen to be sitting in the lucky seat randomly drawn each hour. Later in the evening, the delicious birthday cake courtesy of Connie’s Cakes was cut and the free cake made the rounds fast. A performance by the brewery’s own Harmony Singers was featured later yet.
Specially tapped for the anniversary, the Birthday Barleywine features all Michigan grains and hops from Grand Rapids’ own Hop Ridge Farms. The 9% high gravity ale was the perfect match to the near white-out conditions in Grand Rapids this evening. Other specials included $4.00 Birthday Chocolate Cake Shots, and Cask-aged Vanilla Cocoa Porter. (The Albius Vanilla porter was aged in a cask with cocoa nibs.) Cask-aged beers are something new the brewery has been featuring, tapping them bi-weekly on Wednesdays with their Mug Club night specials.
And don’t forget about the amazing wood fired pizza. I witnessed several to-go orders during all the festivities in the near capacity brewery proving their reputation as one of Grand Rapids’ finest pizzerias is well merited. I can personally attest as I've tried everything from the vegan Slide Whistle with white cannellini bean sauce to the meat lovers crispy pig and have yet to be disappointed. Beer Hound card holders receive 10% off food! Harmony also has an upcoming Valentines Day fundraising event featuring quartets from the Girls Choral Academy.
