Brewing the Beer Hound Brown

The Beer Hound Brown will be ready for release at Gravel Bottom Craft Brewery & Supply very soon; stay tuned for at I’m a Beer Hound for details. The brew session took place recently with Gravel Bottom assistant brewer Brett Langschied along with representatives from the Muskegon Ottawa Brewers including award-winning homebrewer Russ Smith whose take on the recipe was chosen among several MOB contributions to be up-scaled for production at the Ada brewery.
The first round of tasting took place at the Brew House in Muskegon. The Brew House had previously contributed several samples of various cold-brewed coffees sourced from Uncommon Coffee Roasters in Saugatuck for use in the homebrew recipes. The collaborative recipe used as a basis for the Gravel Bottom brew session is being provided here in it’s homebrew version for those interested in replicating the Beer Hound Brown on their own. The recipe features 5 oz. of cold-steeped Espresso.

The brew session at Gravel Bottom started at 7 AM and included additional assistance from MOB members Casey Ploughman and Bob Horan. Uncommon Coffee contributed espresso for the big batch. The upscaled recipe stayed very faithful to the homebrew version using ingredients readily available at the Gravel Bottom homebrew store.
