Ryan at BRU Fest in Royal Oak

We had a nice time at Bru Fest this weekend at the Royal Oak Farmer's Market. As there was a long line waiting to get in last year, we decided to get to Royal Oak early and walk around a bit. There is always a lot to do and see in downtown Royal Oak, from galleries and shops to cafes and bars.
BRU Fest: Beers, Burgers & Wings for a great cause! We kept it simple and close so just grabbed a couple pints and an appetizer from the iconic Mr. B's Pub then hit a couple shops and headed over to the Market. The registration process was easy and well organized--all attendees received a 10 oz. beer glass, 4 food tickets that could each be used for 4 BW's boneless wings or a slider from Bagger Dave's, and 10 tickets that could be used for either a full or half glass of Bell's beer.

Inside, there was a (pretty loud) band playing and two large booths with lots of volunteers serving the wings, burgers and beer. Bell's had a great lineup of their beers available and a few specialty, limited release options as well. Specifically, the "Bell's Black Note", an imperial stout that is actually a mix of their Expedition Stout and Double Cream Stout, was a very special treat. It was strong but smooth and delicious. We were sure to thank the folks from Bell's for bringing this along. Getting beer and food was easy and there was never a long wait as there were plenty of staff helping out.

The food was pretty good, although I think they struggled to keep it very hot. The sliders (there were five different kinds, two of which were turkey burgers) were pre-made, and the different flavors were tasty and imaginative. The boneless wings were the standard BW's wings, which always pair well with any kind of beer!

We enjoyed the festival and the always charming Royal Oak. The festival was very well organized and supported a great cause, the Children's Leukemia Foundation of Michigan. On behalf of the Beerhounds, thanks Bru Fest.
