Beer Hound Brown has arrived. Gravel Bottom Craft Brewery & Supply recently tapped the beer at their pub in Ada and also featured it among their offerings at the recent Beer City Spring Fest in Hudsonville. Initial feedback on the beer has been positive with many high ratings and comments on Untappd impressed by the coffee forward flavor. The reception at the pub on the release day also included many satisfied customers where the new recipe proved to be popular.
The initial recipe for the brew was furnished by Brett Langschied assistant brewmaster at Gravel Bottom and was opened up to the Muskegon Ottawa Brewers for further development. The original homebrew recipes included experimentation with many different cold brew coffees furnished by the Brew House in Norton Shores where award-winning homebrewer Russ Smith’s recipe was picked to use as the basis for the final beer. Uncommon Coffee Roasters in Saugatuck then provided the espresso used for the brew session at Gravel Bottom.

Both Gravel Bottom and the Muskegon Ottawa Brewers have expressed interest in future “I’m a Beer Hound” collaborations going forward. The door is also now open for other breweries and homebrew clubs interested in their own take on the Beer Hound Brown and potentially the developing of additional recipes. With $1 from each pint from Gravel Bottom going to benefit Pound Buddies animal shelter in Muskegon, a further collaborative venture is already in the works: the Pound Buddy Porter!
