Everyone has that local bar that makes you feel welcome just by walking in the door. Reo Town Pub is that bar for me. Recently, the Beer Hound offices were just a spiral staircase away. On bad days, or just days we decided to close up shop early and have a beer, you could find us talking to owner Roxanne and either Jack or Sarah while they bartended.

Written by Jennifer HamiltonThe LeLu Cafe in Northport may be commonly known for its extensive local wine collection, but it has a sneaky good beer selection as well. The LeLu Cafe has the most relaxed atmosphere in Leelanau County, with lounge areas, a great outdoor patio, and window-seat daybeds. Live music is played Wednesday through Saturday, starting at 9pm nightly.

The Black Heron Kitchen & Bar Now Open On West Side Grand Rapids
Written by Dan VanderKooi
The west side of Grand Rapids continues to foster new growth and development with The Black Heron Kitchen & Bar being the latest venture to opens it’s doors. Located on the corner of Sumner Ave and Bridge St NW, this new restaurant sits kitty corner to the upcoming location of New Holland Brewing’s Grand Rapids location now under development. My wife and I were recently invited to attend a sneak preview of the Black Heron along with the Grand Rapids-based food community group EatGR and jumped at the opportunity. Our visit include a complimentary champagne toast which was a nice touch to complement the soft opening.

Michigan was the first state to repeal prohibition, by ratifying the 21st Amendment on April 10, 1933. The newly opened Rochester Tap Room wants to honor and celebrate that history. From a bar top made of reclaimed wood from 1930’s homes to wood panels from the former U. S. Federal Reserve Building in Detroit, the building pays homage to 1933.

Visit Traverse City's Best Location For A Great Beverage: The Parlor
Written by Jennifer Hamilton
With a diverse and elaborate selection of draft and bottled craft beers, The Parlor is one of Traverse City’s best locations to visit for a great beverage. Their happy hour deals will make your jaw drop, consisting of half off all food and beverages, Monday-Saturday, 4pm-7pm. A few of the breweries represented include Short’s Brewing Company, Founder’s Brewing Company, New Holland Brewing Company, and Right Brain Brewery. With such a tremendous happy hour, that puts both the Dirty Bastard from Founder’s and Soft Parade from Short’s at a mere $3 per bottle. The beer list is ever-rotating, so the opportunity to try something new is always presented. Of course, the wine and signature cocktail list is extensive as well, so you can always bring your non-beer-drinking friends along for the experience.
