Get on your snowmobile and ride right up to Paddle Hard Brewing in Grayling! Yes, I am serious. The 'town trail' goes right past the back parking lot!
Even with the early lack of snow, Dave Vargo and his wife Cindy took a huge gamble opening the brewery in the early part of December. Not only has it paid off, but Dave feels like it was the best decision they made; opening before the rush of summer has given the pair time to get the establishment working as a well oiled machine.

Before Dave and Cindy decided on moving to Grayling, they spent a lot of time traveling to Shorts Brewing in order to find a good craft beer. With family nearby, a great school system and a fabulous downtown area, they decided the "gateway to Up North" would be a good fit for them.

The AuSable River Canoe Marathon takes place close to Paddle Hard Brewing and the owners wanted to acknowledge all the effort people put into the marathon, as well as create a unique experience to enhance their much loved downtown district, thus Paddle Hard Brewing was born.

The feeling of community is showcased in the very names they use for the beers brewed on site: Burton's Landing, Wakeley Bridge, and McMaster's Bridge are just a few of the local locations that have appeared on labels. Dave has only great things to say about the brewery's location, "The community has been just fantastic, it's exciting to see us generating regulars and at the same time to meet all the travelers that are passing through that come in for the first time."

Currently Paddle Hard Brewing brews small batch beers with the goal of keeping three house brands on tap with other offerings from other Michigan craft beer brewers and few from around the the country. So far, keeping three Paddle Hard Brewing beers on tap has been a struggle because people have enjoyed it so much they have sold out quicker than anticipated. Don't worry; Dave is working hard on keeping up and is excited about this type of challenge.

Not only does Dave create great beer but he perfected a pizza that will make your mouth water. The pizza is not your typical dough but features artisan flatbread cooked in a woodfired rotating oven. The great thing about flatbread is it a great base for so many menu options. We will see many seasonal offerings as they expand and grow the menu.

Whether you ride your snowmobile into the back parking lot or enjoy a ride in on the river or even drive to Grayling. Make sure you stop in Paddle Hard Brewing and enjoy a pint of beer and a slice of pizza.
