Right Brain Brewing Company

For those acquainted with Right Brain’s former cozy little pub, prepare yourself as Right Brain has relocated into a new expansive atmosphere with ten times the square footage of the previous location. If traveling for the first time, you may feel like you've take a wrong turn following Cass south from downtown through a mostly residential area to the new address of 225 East 16th Street as the brewery has left the immediate downtown area and instead opted to update an older warehouse space in Traverse City’s “SoFo” district (a reference to being south of Fourteenth Street.)
Our first impression was one of overwhelmment as my friends and I entered the new pub area cluttered with lots of schizophrenic art hanging on the walls and from the ceiling. Familiar calming elements soon come into focus such as dart boards, arcade games and board games, and of course the new bar. Still no kitchen with the new location but bar snacks available include pretzels, chips, and popcorn, or cheese plates and sandwiches, and yes - you can still get your haircut. The previously adjoining Saloon Salon has moved into the new digs as well - just be careful with your beer! In fact, the Saloon just had a Hair & Style Show at the brewery on March 9th.

During our visit, Right Brain was promoting their new Imperial 22-Oz bottle release, available individually or in a hand-stamped collectors edition 4-pack. These were launched earlier in February with a release party featuring live music and a balloon bounce battle. Available are the following brews: Debauchery Wheat Wine, Second Coming Double IPA, Igor Takes a Digger, Imperial Brown, and my personal favorite Fat Lad, a robust Russian Imperial Stout, also delicious straight from the cask. Along with other specialties and mainstays, Right Brain also was featuring some locally made meads and ciders as guest taps as well as soda from Northwoods Soda. Be sure to make a stop in for your own mind-expanding Right Brain experience.
