Cellar Brewing in Sparta has now had one year of direction under new owner Chuck Brown, who purchased the brewery formerly known as Michigan Beer Cellar from previous owner Dan Humphrey last year via Cragslist for an undisclosed amount. The brewery was rebranded “Cellar Brewing Company” soon after purchased which included a complete overhaul not just of the logo but also new labels for existing recipes currently being bottled. In addition to the old favorites, new recipes have been added over the past year, starting with Chuck’s own recipe the Lucky Enough Amber Ale which was debuted at last year’s St. Patrick’s Day Celebration.
Another thing that has not changed is the relaxed and laid-back atmosphere of the pub but one thing not to be missed is the new custom tap handles behind the bar, each very uniquely designed with each beer recipe in mind. Current draft selections include Rita’s Red IPA, the, Raspberry Beeret and the PlAhtanum Blonde Ale, as well as former Beer Cellar staple Black Magic RyPA. Be looking out for special brews marking the upcoming brewing anniversaries of Cellar Brewing’s Rob and Ben.

New in bottles in the is the Jon Brown Ale, and also a limited supply of both barrel-aged Hyperion and Oblibion are still available the pub also. Like some of the brews, the food menu has also been revamped including many old favorites but also adding both a Monte Cristo sandwich and even a Monte Cristo dog as well, while sourcing some of the breads from a local bakery. Cellar Brewing also features a kids menu. Last but not least, Cellar Brewing has purchased an upgraded still and plans to boost spirit production in 2014; things in the works for later this year include moonshine, gin, and some other initial un-aged spirits.

Current events include the Mug Club launch on May 1st which is $60 annual membership for new members. Benefits include larger and discounted pours, Wednesday mug club nights, and occasional appreciation dinners. Also May 3rd Cellar Brewing is participating in the first Annual Beer City Spring Fest in Hudsonville.

Other upcoming Sparta events Cellar Brewing will be participating in include:

May 24th: Annual Pink Dress Run (Pub crawl for cancer.)
June 26th: “Freedom Cruise” Village Motor Festival
August 9th: Sparta Celtic Festival
