Just in the last few years, fans of craft beer could find solace and escape from the madness of Black Friday shopping with a stop at their local brewery such as Odd Side Ales in Grand Haven which has opened early and welcomed people to stop by for breakfast, pajamas welcome. The now legendary Morningwood coffee stout became a staple at these morning gatherings and one of the first ever Odd Side Ales beers to feature a bottle release in limited edition bomber bottles. This beer has continued in it’s popularity and has shown up at the pub on draft as well as a limited bottle releases including Halloween and this year’s Black Friday.
Last year with the help of a full production and bottling facility, Odd Side Ales stepped up their game and introduced a new beer to their lineup; the Hipster Brunch maple bacon coffee stout clearly concocted with Black Fridays in mind. Needless to say Hipster Brunch has become an overwhelming success and a visit to your local brewery like Odd Side Ales on Black Friday has become every bit as insane as a visit to any local retailer but still much more fun. This year Odd Side Ales also offered up bottle releases f oScallywagger rum-aged pineapple IPA, and Hazel’s Nuts Coffee Stout as well as an early pre-release of the holiday Mokka Munt Stout. Nearby Lucy’s Market & Deli also introduced a new and amazing Hipster Brunch maple bacon & egg waffle sandwich as well as “The Oddside” grilled sandwich with buffalo chicken and pepper jack on sourdough

Many other West Michigan breweries also offered up speciality bottles releases and/or mug club membership renewals in conjunction with Black Friday. Pigeon Hill Brewing in Muskegon released their limited edition bottles of Your Mom on French Toast and Fiesty Latina imperial stouts, Fetch Brewing in Whitehall released their barrel aged Smolder smoked porter, and Pike 51 in Hudsonville released barrel aged Red 7 and Black 13, as well as their For Whom the Sleigh Bell Tolls holiday stout. Muskegon’s Unruly Brewing and Spring Lake’s Dutch Girl Brewery were among those offering up deals on mug club memberships. Odd Side Ales will be celebrating their Annual Ugly Sweater Party on Saturday, December 12th with $5 stein fills and photo opportunities with Santa and Buddy the Elf.
