Odd Side Ale enthusiasts get up early on Black Friday for release of Morning Wood

Odd Side Ales encouraged patrons to “bring pancakes and wear your pajamas” or in other words BYOB (Bring your own breakfast,) with them supplying plenty of beer for the 9:00 AM Black Friday release of their Morning Wood Bourbon Barrel Age Coffee Stout. This year’s release was more limited with only 400 bottles (down from 600 last year,) however the ABV was increased slightly from 7% to 9%. Several bottles of last year’s were circulating for comparison. Them Two Guys provided entertainment throughout the morning.
Odd Side Ales always revolving tap list was down a few taps from their current capacity of 16 for the event, but the current offerings were stellar and certainly made up for this. Multiple premiums were available including but not limited to the excellent Imperial IPA, Furry Tractor Imperial Brown, and the popular Peanut Butter Cup Stout. Also included among the “regular” beers were the very delicious Java Chip Mint, the Sucker Punch Black IPA, and the Chocolate Koffee Stout.

Earlier this year and due to popular demand OSA moved the bulk of beer production off site to a location near the Grand Haven Memorial Airport and industrial park. What’s in the future for Odd Side Ales? I had a chance to chat briefly with Emperor of the Ales Chris Michner about future bottles releases. He indicated there are no current plans to bottle the Lucid Dream in the next year, which is currently available in the un-oaked version at their pub. However, he did tentatively promise another bottle release scheduled for the spring which I can assure you is bound to be a crowd pleaser for Odd Side Enthusiasts. An inspection of the pub itself also suggests changes in the works; several fermentation vessels have very recently been moved to make additional space and also the current 16 taps appear as if they might soon be joined by an additional 6 more. Also coming soon (December 15th,) is the return of the ugly Christmas sweater party; More details are to be announced soon.
