2 Year Anniversary of Grand Haven's Odd Side Ales

This St. Patty's Day marked the 2-Year anniversary of Grand Haven's Odd Side Ales. Located in an old  former piano factory Downtown, the brewery offered $2 mugs and $5 steins all day in celebration. Mug Club memberships have gone on sale anew as well. $50 for a year (or $150 for a lifetime,) provides a custom designable 16 oz. mug with discounts on all pours including growlers.

Founders Tap Takeover at Pints and Quarts in Muskegon

Muskegon has yet to have it's own brewery. This may change later this year as Unruly Brewing company has announced plans to open. In the meantime, the premier drinking establishment of choice for fans of fermented beverage is Pints & Quarts. "P's & Q"s," as it also referred to, features over thirty different taps featuring many Michigan beers including regularly rotating taps from Short's, Odd Side Ales, and recently Greenbush.

The Epic Day That Was 2012 Founders KBS Release

One thousand plus eager fans converged on Founders March 10, 2012 all with one goal in mind: to bring home with them one of three hundred promised cases of Kentucky Breakfast Stout. Aged for a year in bourbon barrels in the Grand Rapids gypsum mines, KBS is a powerfully strong coffee chocolate Imperial Stout widely recognized as one of the greatest beers in the world.

Harmony Brewing Company | Grand Rapids

Harmony Brewing Company is so new there was not yet a sign on the building when my friends & I visited earlier this week. If you are considering a stop soon, note the address of 1551 Lake Dr. SE, right in the heart of Grand Rapid's Eastown (and right off of Wealthy St. as well.) Locals may also recognize the location as the former Jack's Liquor Store. We knew we were in the right place when we spotted one of the bartenders of Grand Haven's Odd Side Ales leaving the premises, singing the praises of the chocolate honey porter.

Founders Brewing Company | Curmudgeon's Better Half

On Monday, February 13th, a day prior to Valentine's Day, the tap room at Founders opened at it's usual 11 AM. However, this day was anything like a normal slow paced Monday work day at the brewery as twelve hundred bottles of the latest “Backstage Series” beer were made available for sale. My friends and I arrived fashionably late around 1 PM to a standing room only bar and we were able to snag a couple bottles each of the last couple of hundred remaining bottles. (By 3 PM, all of the bottles were sold out.)

HopCat 4th Anniversary Celebration

This Saturday I attended the Hopcat 4th anniversary celebration. Two very limited edition bottled beers were made available specifically for the event; one being Oil-Rigger, a bourbon barrel-aged Imperial Stout, and the other being Golden Devil, a Belgian Strong Pale Ale brewed with Citron Green Tea.

Recap of 4th Annual Fox Brew Ha HA | Grand Rapids Michigan

The 4th Annual Fox Brew Ha HA was held at the Deltaplex in Grand Rapids, MI on Friday January 20th and Saturday January 21st. I was fortunate to attend this event with some friends this past Saturday afternoon. As a fan of fermented beverage local and fresh, I primarily sought out the many West Michigan breweries that participated in this event, from the total of 40 different breweries including an equal number of macros brews as micro. Needless to say, whatever your taste in beer, there was something to be had. Admission included 5 samples and a commemorative pint glass.
