A Few Great Beers to Pair with Thanksgiving Dinner
In just a few short days, most of us will embark on one of the quintessential events of the American experience: heading home for a 2-3 day death-march of way too much food, family, and football. Yes, it's Thanksgiving, the time to remember how thankful we are for our family, and that we don't live with them every other day of the year as well. As far as the food, Thanksgiving dinners can either be delicious and savory or poorly seasoned and boring--there seems to rarely be an in-between.
However the dinner is where you're going, you're likely going to need (we strongly encourage it, anyway) a few beers to help you survive, especially while watching the Lions. So, we thought we would put together a beer drinking guide to Thanksgiving, a couple beers to sip on throughout the day and then a few to go with each of courses in the traditional Thanksgiving meal. We hope you find it useful and wish you safe and happy travels wherever you're headed this week.

The Weather & Marquette Combine for Successful 2012 U.P Fall Beer Fest
Saturday, September 8, was your typical, run-of-the-mill late summer day in Michigan: chilly, cloudy, partly sunny, fairly warm, and with periods of light showers and no showers at all. Also included: U.P. Beer Fest 2012, set in Lower Mattson Harbor Park in beautiful Marquette, MI. The wife and I (well, mostly I) were anticipating a great day sampling the wares of more than 35 Michigan craft brewers, along with some local food and musical entertainment. In all, we were looking forward to five hours of controlled and polite beer mayhem!

U.P. Fall Beer Fest Returns to Marquette’s Mattson Lower Harbor Park
Michigan Brewers Guild Hosts 4th Annual Event – Saturday, September 8
More than 30 Michigan craft breweries will gather at Mattson Lower Harbor Park on Saturday, September 8 for the 4th Annual U.P. Fall Beer Festival where attendees will be able to sample from more than 160 different locally-crafted beers – along with food prepared by area restaurants and live, local entertainment.

Benton Harbor Arts Community Celebrates 6th Annual Artoberfest Sept. 15
Michigan Breweries featured include The Livery, Founders, Arcadia and Short’s
An Oktoberfest-style celebration is on-tap to draw hundreds of people to downtown Benton Harbor, Mich. Sept. 15 from noon to 10 p.m. Artoberfest 2012 will showcase regional talent, brew masters and wineries in an outdoor venue located at 190 5th St. in the Benton Harbor Arts District. The event is free entry noon – 5 p.m. and $5 after 5 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the New Territory Arts Association.

The Livery - Benton Harbor Celebrates its 7th Anniversary
The weekend of August 17-18 will prove to be a big one for The Livery microbrewery in downtown Benton Harbor, in celebration of its 7th anniversary. The weekend kicks off Friday, August 17 with a show by the iconic Americana/alternative country songwriter and performer Robbie Fulks, with guest Robbie Gjersoe. Showtime is 8pm and tickets are $20 in advance ($25 day of the show). On tap Saturday will be a special beer called ERUPTION – a collaboration among the brewers of The Livery, Brewery Vivant in Grand Rapids and Arbor Brewing/Corner Brewery in Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti. This Flanders-style red ale was fermented entirely in sour wood barrels; a raspberry version will be available as well.

The Livery: Featued Brewery for July's Beer Dinner at The State Room
Join the State Room inside the Kellogg Center in East Lansing on Thursday, July 19 at 7:00 PM for their next “Tapped” Beer Dinner featuring The Livery Brewery. Tickets are $45 and include a 5-course meal, each course to be carefully paired with one of the The Livery's delicious craft beers. This will be the first event of its kind anywhere in the Lansing area for The Livery's owner and brewer, Steve Berthel, so it promises to be both a special and exciting night.

Finley's Supports Local Michigan--Adds 20 Michigan Beers On Tap
Finley’s American Grill, with its location at 7433 West Saginaw Hwy, has been a local hometown favorite for almost 40 years!! “Our lease was up and an opportunity was available for us to move our location down the road next to the Ramada Inn”, states Fred Shoffstall, District Manager. “The new Ramada Inn location allowed us to offer many more dining options requested from our guests”, states Fred, “like additional seating, expanded parking and a stand-alone sit down bar area.”
